Our charms wore off last night. It was a foul, dirty night: lightning, rain, wind, endless squalls. We still made some miles, though. Today has just been rainy. I'm not going to update our position on the Yotreps website today, but our noon position today was North 08 deg. 54 min, West 145 deg. 38 min. 850 nm to go to Hilo.

Sorry there haven't been any emails for a couple days, been very busy. The weather gods must have gotten wind of my email mentioning something about boredom. The last three days have been a continuous series of variations on the theme Wild Ride. It all started right after I finished my last email. We are now in the northern trade winds which are stronger. The variations have included rain squalls, high winds (sometimes in the 25+ knot range), higher seas of up to 12 to 14 feet. Today is the first day we have seen the sun through a thick grey overcast. Yesterday, I crawled up on deck for my 4a to 8a watch and could see two big squalls off to the east, bearing down on us through the dark. Mark was tired from dealing with them during his watch so didn't wake him. It was very satisfying to be able to deal with them on my own. As little as a week ago I wouldn't have had the confidence to do that. Enjoying living outside the comfort zone, Ye-Haw. Th boat is amazing, it seems happy plowing through just about anything. Looks like we should make landfall on the Big Island on Monday. Still don't know if that will be Hilo or Kona. All is going well
